Privacy Policy
Effective date: May 20, 2025 · Last updated: May 20, 2025
This Privacy Policy explains how ClearSignal ("ClearSignal", "we", "us", or "our"), operated at https://clearsignal.name.ng, collects, uses, and protects information when you visit our website. We are committed to transparency. We do not sell your personal data. We do not require you to create an account to read our content.
1. Information We Collect
We do not collect your name, email address, or any directly identifying personal information unless you voluntarily contact us. However, when you visit the site, certain technical information is automatically collected for analytics purposes:
- Page URL visited — To understand which content is most read.
- Approximate country — Derived from your IP address by our infrastructure. We do not store your full IP address.
- Browser and operating system — Parsed from your User-Agent string (e.g. Chrome on Windows).
- Referring source — The website or search engine that linked you here, if any (e.g. Google, direct).
- Timestamp — When the visit occurred.
This data is collected through a custom-built analytics system hosted on our own database (Neon, a PostgreSQL provider). We do not use Google Analytics or other third-party analytics services.
2. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
ClearSignal itself does not set first-party tracking cookies for readers. However, third-party services used on the site may set cookies on your device:
- Monetag (advertising) — We display ads through Monetag. Monetag may set cookies to serve and personalise advertisements based on your browsing behaviour. Monetag operates its own cookie and data policies, which are independent of ClearSignal. You can opt out of personalised ads through your browser settings or via the IAB opt-out tools.
- Cloudinary (media delivery) — Images and videos on this site are served through Cloudinary. Cloudinary may log access requests for delivery and performance purposes.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Note that disabling cookies may affect your experience on other websites but will not affect your ability to read content on ClearSignal.
3. How We Use Your Information
The technical data we collect is used exclusively to:
- Understand which posts and topics are most useful to readers.
- Identify where our traffic comes from (search engines, social media, direct).
- Improve site performance and content quality.
- Detect and prevent abuse or malicious access to the site.
We do not use your data for targeted advertising, profiling, or automated decision-making.
4. Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party. Information may be shared only in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers — We use Neon (database hosting) and Vercel (web hosting) to operate the site. These providers process data strictly to provide their services and are bound by their own privacy policies.
- Legal requirements — We may disclose information if required to do so by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of others.
5. Data Retention
Analytics data (page views, browser/OS, country, referrer) is retained indefinitely in aggregated form to track long-term traffic trends. No individual visitor profiles are built or retained. We may periodically purge raw page view records older than 24 months.
6. Your Rights
Depending on where you are located, you may have the following rights regarding your data:
- Right to access — You may request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
- Right to deletion — You may request that we delete any personal data associated with your visit, where technically feasible given the anonymous nature of our data.
- Right to object — You may object to the processing of your data for analytics purposes.
- GDPR (EEA/UK residents) — If you are located in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation.
- CCPA (California residents) — If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know what data is collected and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contact@clearsignal.name.ng.
7. Children's Privacy
ClearSignal is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
8. External Links
Our posts may contain links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any external sites you visit.
9. Security
We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect data against unauthorised access, alteration, or destruction. These include encrypted connections (HTTPS), HTTP-only session cookies for admin access, rate limiting, and input sanitisation. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
